DENVER--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 9, 1998--Advanced Intelligent
Networks Corporation (AINC) of Denver, CO developer of a family of
Small Office/Home Office technologies proudly announces an agreement
to provide a national educational-use license for the SohoNet(TM)
System software granted to the National Information Technology
Educational Council(NITEC) for the inclusion with their distribution
of free computers to schools.
Under Executive Orders signed by Presidents Bush and Clinton,
NITEC is empowered to provide surplus government computer equipment to
schools for free. However, in many cases, the educators are required
to know enough about their configuration and software requirements to
manage their own computer systems.
By booting the SohoNet software and additional operating
system components, the computers automatically connect by modem or
network to the NITEC/SohoNet servers in Denver. The software then acts
by remote control, configuring and administering the systems,
relieving the level of expertise required to connect the schools to
each other.
This agreement formally creates and enables the NITEC/SohoNet
Educational Network, connecting schools across the country providing a
national network for distance learning, computer aided instruction,
and uniform access and opportunity for education to all of the
American society.
The SohoNet System includes hardware and software to enable Small
Office/Home Office - residential, business, and now educational
services. Part of this advancement includes a business nursery and
"Chamber of Commerce", skills training and registry services, job
posting and placement, a computer aided instruction education system,
and an intellectual property protection system for electronic
publishing.
The National Information Technology Educational Council is one of
the Federal Government Information Processing Councils and is chaired
by Mr. John B. Hooder, Jr. NITEC's fundamental goal is to focus on the
American Student body, individually and collectively. Stated another
way, the student and his/her educational success is why the council
has been formed.
David S. Roland, President of AINC has been working on the
technologies associated with the integration of services on digital
networks, especially with ISDN telecommunications. The SohoNet(TM)
software, Roland has been developing for the last 7 years, provides a
natural and seamless method to control complex services with a simple
appliance philosophy. For additional information call or visit the
